About Get Grenada Swimming
Grenada is an island country in the Caribbean about 100 miles north of Venezuela.
Like other Caribbean countries many National Grenadians, children and adults, cannot swim (estimated at over 80%) resulting in unfortunate drownings.
The Get Grenada Swimming initiative was a 5-year program designed to teach 8,000 children to swim by 2021. In July, 2021 we reached that goal and more (9,600)! We will continue with our programmes to teach 10,000 children and adults in the next 5 years, but in addition we now have a goal to certify 100 Professional Swim Instructors during that time period. We are putting extensive programmes in place with the National Training Agency to award National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ). We also will be certifying some instructors with Bronze Cross Training from the Lifesaving Society in Canada and Lifeguarding certifications with the Red Cross.
